Horatio! Horatio! * I pray you do not weep,

I know your heart is breaking your hurt is very deep,

You backed Russia as a winner & you lost, but try again.

I see it now that leader which in “John Bull” I perused,

You said she was so useful with her oil & with her grain,

But although the Germans got it John, don’t cry, but try again.

Watch Italy! Watch Italy! a splendid phrase was that,

I felt like shouting out “Hurrah!” & throwing up my hat,

For you told us to the Allies she would prove a splendid gain,

I don’t say you’re a liar, but buck up, & try again.

Ah Christmastime! Ah Christmastime! this fighting would be o’er,

Then, Sir Douglas Haig had told you would be the end of war,

But still “old Fritz” is busy but I won’t call you insane,

You’re a d____d bad hand at guessing, never mind, but try again.
